ATLANTA – Outrage grows over video that appears to show a Georgia State Patrol soldier stomping on a suspect after a chase.

The incident happened on Sunday and a video was posted on Instagram.

What we learn about the suspect and the tactics used by GSP during this arrest, LIVE on Channel 2 WSB this evening at 11 p.m.

GSP said it started as a traffic stop after a soldier noticed a man driving along the downtown connector without wearing his seat belt.

Soldiers said the suspect, identified as Jamarco Lucas, 27, exited the freeway at Edgewood Avenue, got out of his car and fled.

The soldier chased Lucas to an apartment complex along Edgewood Avenue where the soldier said he saw a gun drop from Lucas’s belt.

GSP said the soldier shot Lucas twice with his Taser, hitting him once. He also gave him verbal orders.

Because the soldier was unsure if Lucas was still armed, GSP said the soldier applied what is known as a kickstart.

Local activist Scotty Smart said Channel 2’s Ashli ​​Lincoln that if it is a technique approved by GSP, they have concerns.

“I think this is a clear case of excessive force. We already have someone on the ground. It is not necessary to trample on it. You can easily apprehend the suspect by simply putting the handcuffs on him. Stomping on him two or three times feels like an emotional reaction, ”said Smart.

Lucas is currently on probation for assault and has an active arrest warrant in Rockdale County for common assault and battery.

Lucas was eventually arrested. He was charged with flight or attempted escape, obstructing a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm with an altered serial number, reckless driving, speeding , improper lane change, non-compliance with a traffic control system, driving without a license and without a seat belt.
