The parent company of restaurants such as Planet Hollywood, Buca di Beppo and Mixology has confirmed that it has suffered a security breach after security researchers uncovered more than 2 million stolen credit card numbers sold online.
KrebsOnSecurity said it contacted the company in February after finding "solid evidence" that its credit and debit card numbers were being sold online. Hackers used "malware installed on their point-of-sale systems" to steal 2.15 million credit and debit card numbers, expiration dates, and some cardholder names in restaurants located in 40 states.
Earl Enterprises claims that the offense occurred between May 23, 2018 and March 18, 2019 and that "the incident is now under control". The offense has affected several restaurants, Buca di Beppo, Earl of Sandwich, Planet Hollywood and Chicken Guy!, Mixology and Tequila Taqueria outlets. The company has since launched a website that allows customers to check if the affected location was one of those affected. It also indicates that the online orders have not been affected by the violation.
The company recommends that customers review their returns for suspicious activity and notify their issuer if they discover fraudulent transactions.
