More than three-quarters of a million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered in Utah, and more than a quarter of a million Utahs have received the second dose. That’s about 8.4% of the state’s population who are fully vaccinated and that comes on the day the Johnson & Johnson single-dose vaccine arrived in the state.
Utah reported seven more deaths on Wednesday; five of them occurred before February 10 and were only recently confirmed to be related to the coronavirus. The state medical examiner has determined that one of the deaths reported Monday – an Iron County man, aged 65 to 84 – was not caused by COVID-19, and the death of the male has been removed from the state count.
Vaccinations given the previous day / total vaccinations • 18.236 / 759.533.
Number of Utahns who received two doses • 269,368.
Cases reported in the last day • 729.
Deaths reported in the past day • Seven.
Salt Lake County has reported five deaths: a man and woman aged 45 to 64; a man and a woman aged 65 to 84; and a woman aged 85 and over.
There has been one death each in Box Elder and Washington counties, both men aged 65 to 84.
Hospitalizations reported in the last day • 212. This is a decrease from Tuesday. Of those currently hospitalized, 92 are in intensive care units – the same as Tuesday.
Tests reported the day before • 8,249 people were tested for the first time. A total of 21,267 people were tested.
Percentage of positive tests • Under the original state method, the rate is 8.8%. This is below the seven-day average of 10.2%.
His new method counts all test results, including repeated testing of the same individual. Wednesday’s rate is now 3.4%, below the seven-day average of 4.8%.
Totals to date • 372,708 cases; 1,949 deaths; 14,783 hospitalizations; 2,222,755 people tested.
