Overwatch has come out of nowhere with a brand new event called the PachiMarchi Challenge that promises to be one of the game’s cutest celebrations yet.
If you’ve played Overwatch, there’s a good chance you’ve heard of the smiling little octopus / onion known as Pachimari. They’re basically the cutest thing in the game (besides baby D.Va) and now they’re having their own event.
That’s right, from March 9 to 22, PachiMarchi will be the very first Overwatch mini-event not focused on an actual playable character.
Prepare for a searing cephalopod showdown.

Like us, you’ve probably seen this trailer tweeted by Overwatch and thought to yourself “what’s going on, Jeff?” because that doesn’t really explain what the event will be and it’s not really hero specific.
Blizzard, however, explained in more detail what was happening on the official Overwatch forums. According to the developers, you’ll be able to unlock six community-created Pachimari-themed sprays just by launching Overwatch before the event ends.
Unlike similar past events, PachiMarchi Will not do have Twitch drops, so the only way to earn the rewards, which we know about so far, is to log in and play.
What will these Pachi themed sprays look like, you ask? They haven’t been revealed yet, but Overwatch has literally retweeted a ton of painfully cute Pachimari fan art since the start of March, so this might be a good place to start looking.

There is no mention of any skins or other rewards outside of the sprays, so unfortunately the chances of each hero getting their own Pachimari skin for this event are probably pretty slim.
While the idea of turning Mei’s Snowball companion into a sprawling little onion or giving Roadhog a skin for his favorite plush seems adorable, unfortunately they seem very unlikely (you can certainly take these ideas for future use, Jeff) .
A bit of speculation was floating around that we could see the Overwatch Archives event start this week, based on it starting in the second week of March 2020. Blizzard had other ideas though, but there are a good chance the next seasonal event is happening. shortly after the end of PachiMarchi on March 22.
