Overwatch players may want this particular April Fool’s joke to stick around.
After adding year-round staples like googly eyes and all-caps Reinhardt dialogue in match chats, Overwatch the developers have decided to give players a bonus gift to take advantage of it today. The April 1 Experimental Map includes changes for all 32 heroes, ranging from minor changes to some really ridiculous revisions.
Torbjörn’s Forging Hammer, for example, now deals 200% more damage while overload is active, making it one of the best melee weapons in the game. Reaper can now fly when using Wraith Form, which is which is both terrifying and hilarious. The range of Symmetra photon projectors has increased to 16 meters. The developers stated that “the photon projector now projects more photons”.
The full patch notes for the Experimental Map are worth reading just for the developer comments scattered throughout the article. While there is no chance that these changes will be made to the live servers, players will likely be able to enjoy this experimental map for about a week.

Hanzo
- Storm arrows now ricochet off the environment.
Long-time fans of Overwatch remember Hanzo’s legendary Scatter Arrow ability, which was replaced by Storm Arrow when it was redesigned a few years ago. This experimental card brings back the ability that is totally skill-based, not at all random so that we can all enjoy it.
Can
- Reassigned to the Tank role.
- The character scale has increased by 15%.
- Health increased from 250 to 400.
In a battle between King Kong, Godzilla and Mei, who wins? We put our money on Mei. She can now be found in the Tank range and is 15% larger which is really terrifying. His health has also almost doubled to make him something of an immortal demigod.

- The Guardian Angel can now target enemies.
Healing Allies is so 2020. Mercy’s flying ability can now target enemies, meaning she can zoom in to her next victim with devastating ease. “It would be a bad time to underestimate the surprising amount of damage Mercy’s Caduceus Blaster can do,” the developers said in the patch notes. “There is no way out. I’m sorry.”
Reinhardt
- Charge now has 200% more power steering.
Are you tired of the Reinhardts in your games using Charge to dive straight off the map? With this experimental map change, they will have less excuse when they do it three times in the same match. Six-player Earthshatters may be normal for talented Reinhardt players, but the most recent trend will be six-player loads.
Sigma
- No longer bound by gravity
- Experimental barrier deactivated.
The astrophysicist outside the tank no longer has any barrier. It doesn’t matter, as he can now fly all the time. Why block the damage when you can just go up to the skybox to avoid it?
Zenyatta
- Can now levitate for up to three seconds while holding Jump.
