Shooter of the Blizzard team Overwatch takes a major step with the official unveiling of Baptiste, the 30th hero of the game. Baptiste is a support character described as a "combat doctor" who uses a range of gadgets to help his team in combat. Baptiste joins a growing number of characters for the colorful shooter. According to the hero designer Geoff Goodman, the concept of Baptiste began around the idea of a "gadget healer" character.
"We were playing with various game concepts around gadget / device deployment as a way of supporting and caring for your team," said Goodman. The edge. "From a purely gameplay point of view, this hero was created to provide support players with new options and gameplay to support their team, as well as to attract players who would not often play support."
Baptiste joins a group of Overwatch characters, and Goodman admits it's "a growing challenge" to find new heroes who feel separate. That said, the designer believes that Baptiste's unique healing abilities, combined with his combat skills – which include "an accurate three-shot round-shot rifle" – should provide many new strategic options for players.
