MINNEAPOLIS – Texas Tech striker, Tariq Owens, started for the Red Raiders during their national championship game against Virginia on Monday night.
Owens had a sprained ankle after falling awkwardly in the second half of Saturday's win over Michigan State. He was assisted in the locker room, but he came out of the tunnel running later in the game. He came back in the match with 6:52 to go, but he returned to the bench at 5:38.
Owens was seen wearing a right foot boot at US Bank Stadium on Sunday and did not train.
Owens, a 6-foot-10 senior, was a key factor in his 23 minutes against Michigan State. He had seven points and four rebounds and blocked three shots.
Owens averaged 8.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.5 blocks.
