In a new video, Overwatch League Vice President Jon Spector revealed that OWL’s fourth season will start a little later than normal, possibly hinting at a release for the game’s sequel.
Overwatch 2 was first announced at BlizzCon 2019 and since then fans have been really in the dark with the developers refusing to release any new information.
As the Overwatch League prepares for its fourth season, fans have grown accustomed to the seasons starting in January or February, but that all changes in the future.
According to Jon Spector, the fourth season will debut in the spring. While he attributed this to the global health crisis, it’s also possible that Overwatch 2 could influence the decision a bit as well.
“Our 2021 season will start in the spring. It gives us a little more time to plan than when we started in February, ”he said. “It gives us and the teams a little more opportunity to handle all the logistics and be ready to reach 2021 at the start of the season.”
With BlizzCon 2020 discontinued and moved to an online event in February, many fans believe this will be where Blizzard shows most of the long-awaited sequel, including a release date.
Overwatch community figure Naeri tweeted, “The 2021 Overwatch League should officially be back in the spring. Therefore, it looks like you can check out the exact version of Overwatch 2 on BlizzConline 2021. ”
This is not the only proof either. As Dexerto previously reported, streamer Metro, who leaked information about the sequel before it was made official, said the game will likely get a beta if not a full release in 2021.
It would make sense for the league to want teams and players to familiarize themselves with everything Overwatch 2 has to offer, like new heroes, maps, and modes before the season begins.

Additionally, there have been rumors that Season 4 has a pre-season. This seems to be another indicator that we will be looking at a brand new game.
Until then, we’ll have to keep our eyes peeled and see what the future has in store for us once BlizzCon kicks off in February.
