ATLANTA – Channel 2 Action News learned that a man died and another was injured in a shooting at a busy Buckhead shopping center.
The shooting took place around 4 p.m. at the Peachtree Battle Mall in the 2300 block of Peachtree Road.
Police said a man was walking out of one of the stores when he saw people breaking into his car. It was then that he confronted them and started shooting in defense.

Investigators said another man fled from the scene and was firing bullets as he ran. They located this person a little later.
In total, two people were shot dead. One of them was killed instantly. The other was taken to a nearby hospital and was last listed as a stable.
Branch Properties, owner of the mall, issued a statement saying:
“On Friday afternoon, the security team at the Peachtree Battle Mall responded to a situation in the parking lot. Our team was on site and responded immediately and continues to work closely with the Atlanta Police Department. The safety of our customers is our top priority and we continue to maintain enhanced security measures on site. “
NewsChopper2 was on the scene, which showed a large police presence and a crime scene tape hanging across the parking lot.
