LAS VEGAS – Ozuna, artist of the Dominican and Dominican Dominican reggaeton latino trap, is one of the biggest hits of the year "Taki Taki" with Selena Gomez, Cardi B and DJ Snake – was the greatest winner of the Billboard Award Latin Music Award 2019 Thursday night.
Ozuna, who had already broken the record for most nominations – 23 in 15 different categories – broke another record by winning 11 awards, the most victories in a year.
Ozuna won first prize of the night, artist of the year, as well as the best Latin album of the year and album of Latin rhythms of the year for his album 2017 "Odisea".
Bad Bunny and Nicky Jam, both famous artists and urban singers, followed Ozuna with respectively 4 wins and 5 wins. One of Nicky Jam's victories was for "X", alongside Colombian reggaeton star J Balvin.
Urban genres have won many victories in Latin billboards, showing how reggaeton and the Latin trap have fueled the steady growth of Latin music over the past few years, having been dominated mainly by Mexican regional music, pop and tropical genres.
"Te Bothe" of the mega reggaeton with Puerto Rican artists Nio García, Casper Mágico, Darell, Bad Bunny, Nicky Jam and Ozuna – who has been awarded both by the Billboard's Hot Latin Songs and the Hot 100 musical charts – won three awards, including the Latin song of the year and the continuous song of the year.
The geniuses of "Te Boté", Nio García and Casper Mágico, told NBC News that they still remember the day when they sat on a carpet in Orlando to write the song – without imagining that it would be the same. she would never become a Billboard hit.
"One of the key factors is to make sure we make good music, but by doing that we also have a great remix," said Casper Mágico. "But we never imagined that it would become such an important success," added Nio García.
Another Reggaeton singer, AA Anniversary, also won a prize in the category of Best New Artist.
In the middle of the reggaeton wave, the group of CNCO Latin pop boys won three wins, including the pop album of the year, after playing its bilingual single "Pretend" on the Latin Billboards scene.
"If you feel comfortable with that, we should do it more. Many people are now writing songs in Spanish and English, "NBC News, his group mate Joel Pimentel, who grew up in English, told NBC News. "We encourage people to go out and do it [singing bilingual songs] because people will love. "
The Mexican trio Reik has won the title of Latin-pop song of the year for his title "Me Niego" with Ozuna and the reggaeton giant Wisin, inscribing himself in a growing trend to associate urban music with pop.
The Latin billboards also highlighted the rise of urban female artists such as Anitta, Becky G, Karol G and Natti Natasha, all of whom were nominated in the predominantly male gender.
Dominican urban singer Natti Natasha became the first female artist to win Best New Artist in at least four years. She was nominated with Colombian reggaeton singer Karol G in the same category.
"In many ways we have built our own way," said the Colombian reggaeton singer in Spanish at the Latin Music Week in Las Vegas. "I have the impression that there was a lack of habit of listening to us and listening to our lyrics in urban music … But the fact is that the doors have opened for us now. "
While at least 13 women have been nominated for the Latin Billboard Music Awards, Natti Natasha is one of three women to have won wins on Thursday night. Shakira was the other winner, who won two awards. Cardi B has been named crossover artist of the year with "I Like It", with J Balvin and Bad Bunny.
"If we're all going to talk about the power of girls, it's more about playing the role and not just talking about it," said Becky G.
Other nominees and public favorites appeared at the awards ceremony at the Mandalay Events Center in Las Vegas.
J Balvin presented his Coachella collaborations on the Billboard Latin Music scene, singing hits with Spanish singer Rosalía and Grammy-nominated musician Sean Paul, among other performances.
A day before, Sean Paul and J. Balvin spoke on the Latin Billboards scene to sing the hit "Contra La Pared," the American Association of Recording Industry (RIAA) , which has awarded a Platinum Award to their artists.
"It was a surprise to me, I did not think it had been broadcast so much," Sean Paul told NBC News. "It's been about a month now, and it's a big hard streaming for me right now."
Ozuna has launched a new remix of his song "Baila, Baila" on the Billboard Latin Music show, including reggaeton giants Daddy Yankee, J Balvin and Anuel AA.
Giants of Latin music such as Marc Anthony, Aventura and Carlos Vives also illuminated the Billboard Latin scene to highlight the growing evolution of Latin music – especially the urban and reggaeton genres that are n & # 39; have not been nominated in the record highs in recent years.
