DeShone Kizer has become the last quarterback to be cut before the 2019 season.
The Green Bay Packers drop the caller Saturday in the final cuts, said Ian Rapoport of NFL Network Insider.
Kizer spent the 2018 season as a substitute for Aaron Rodgers after leaving the Cleveland Browns during a final off season. He played only three games as a substitute last year, including interception and defeat in the first game of the season against Chicago before Rodgers came back from injury to save the day.
A former second-round pick in Notre Dame, Kizer started 15 games as a rookie with the Browns in 2017, completing 53.1% of his passes for 2,894 yards, 11 touchdowns and 22 steals.
Kizer spent the off-season fighting with Tim Boyle, calling the unassigned free agent signal from 2018, for backup tasks behind Rodgers. The Packers felt comfortable entrusting this job to Boyle – unless they were struggling with the growing pile of saves hitting the free market this weekend. Given Rodgers' recent history of injury, Green Bay is banking on the young quarterback.
