After completing Scouting training and professional days, the Packers' eight-man squad, 11 free agents and 20 qualifying hopefuls took the field at Don Hutson Center for their first official NFL training.
Head coach Matt LaFleur has had no 11-to-11 period, but has focused on a lot of individual work. This may seem trivial, but it was still a welcome change from the preparation for the 40-yard races and shuttles.
"There is nothing wrong with getting back to basics," said Dexter Williams, sixth-round coach. "It comes down to the basics and comes back in the flow of everything, just move your body, get back to your football state."
LaFleur's objectives for the weekend are to set expectations and provide a "base" for what to expect when recruits join veterans for the rest of the off-season program.
The new head coach was not just a spectator or an observer. The former college quarterback led short passes on short passes, finding out first-hand how some of the prospects are actually announcing live.
