The Green Bay Packers are bringing back a beloved player to ensure their roster is ready to win an NFC title and return to the Super Bowl.
Veteran cornerback Tramon Williams flew to Green Bay on Wednesday and is expected to sign with the Packers after being cut by the Baltimore Ravens on Monday, according to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
On the league’s daily deal feed, the Packers listed Williams as an official free agent visit.
Williams, who turns 38 in March, played the 2018 and 2019 seasons at Green Bay but was not renewed in 2020. He finally signed for Baltimore in November and has played six games with the Ravens, including the last week’s playoff loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Williams was the Packers’ main cornerback in the slot machine last season. He could provide valuable depth to any cornerback position and potentially give the Packers another option to return kicks in a pinch.
Williams won a Super Bowl as a member of the Packers in 2010. He played 15 playoff games with the franchise.
It would be the second time the Packers have brought a player back after a playoff loss. Offensive tackle Jared Veldheer was ruled out of the Indianapolis Colts practice squad earlier this month.
