The Green Bay Packers are about to reach their first major signing as a free agency. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Packers are expected to sign former Baltimore Ravens forward Za'Darius Smith.
The financial details of the case were not known immediately.
The Ravens' fourth-round pick in 2015, Smith produced a phenomenal season in 2018, totaling 8.5 sacks, 25 quarterback successes and 10 tackles for 16-game defeats in Baltimore.
According to Pro Football Focus, Smith's 60 total pressure was the 17th highest NFL defense in 2018. He finished with the 16th highest score for the passes.
The Packers desperately needed to add an extra touch to Mike Pettine's defense. Clay Matthews is a free agent and Nick Perry is a potential cap. Smith will give the Packers an upward girl to form the group.
