The first choice of the first round of 2019 signed his contract rookie.

Green Bay Packers' safety, Darnell Savage, accepted his four-year contract on Thursday, his agency announced on Twitter.

As with all first-round rookie business, Savage's contract includes a fifth-year team option that can be exercised before the start of his fourth season.

A late riser in the selection process, Savage was the 21st pick in the first round of the NFL 2019 draft on Thursday night. Green Bay traded its 30th overall – acquired via New Orleans in last year's Marcus Davenport deal – to the Seattle Seahawks to move to No. 21 to allow Savage to leave Maryland.

Savage was the second Green Bay player to be drafted in the first round after the Packers took control of Michigan against Rashan Gary in 12th place.

Security enters a defensive back-end group filled with selections early in the round: half-corners Jaire Alexander (No. 18, 2018), Josh Jackson (No. 45, 2018) and Kevin King (No. ° 33, 2017) and security, Josh Jones (No. 61, 2017).

NFL Network cartoonist Daniel Jeremiah said of Savage, "He's explosive, you can play against him all over the field, he's still on the pitch, the buzz really started in him last week." You like the hardness that he brings to the table. He can play the trick, he's as sporty as 4.3.3. "
