The San Diego Padres stayed warm, defeating the Arizona Diamondbacks 5-4 on Saturday night.

The Padres won their seventh game on the road behind Matt Strahm's solid throws and timely strikes. Fernando Tatis Jr. and Eric Hosmer each completed two races, and Franmil Reyes gave the Padres the advantage with a tied win. All Padres tracks came with two outs.
The Padres seemed to have their hands full against Kelly, with a .682 team OPS against the right-handers. Merrill Kelly scored 14 strikeouts against two goals in 15 innings and a 3.00 record. In contrast, Strahm entered the match with four strikeouts and five goals in nine innings, which is good for a time of 5.79.
The Padres entered the match with their leading forwards ranging from 0 to 15. Manuel Margot broke this series with a double in the lead. With a withdrawal, Manny Machado pushed Margot into third place with a single bloop in the center left and took second place in the throw. Eric Hosmer came close to the plate by hitting .44 (2-5) with two running riders and runners in goal position.
The poor performance of Ian Kinsler and Austin Hedges erased a threat in the second. After Kinsler doubled, he was surprised trying to rank third on a defensive player choice. Arizona was threatening to have two runners at the base in each of the first three innings. Adam Jones led the first with a double and Peralta was hit by a throw, but both were blocked. Strahm hit Adam Jones with riders cornering in the second. In the third, he managed to move Walker and Escobar on a line in the center to leave the riders in first and third places. Arizona was 0-8 with the riders in position to score.
Strahm did not have a great velocity but threw his slider to hit, and his change was effective. His fastball peaked at around 91 and his slider at 84-87. He threw almost as many sliders as fast balls. He finally found his pace in the fourth inning, getting the Diamondbacks with two strikeouts and a face-off to catch. He started the first-throw strikes against only seven of the 21 batters he faced, but did not work.
The first half of the match was marked by two outs at the top of the fifth. Hunter Renfroe made the count and made two fouls before taking Kelly's 89th position for the fourth ball. Kelly finished with 95 pitches including five eliminated. He had a first strike on only 12 out of 23 hitters.
Up to 4-0, the Padres went to the pen in the sixth. The Padres relief players entered the game with a WHIP of 1.16 and a 10.6K / 9, having allowed only six points and 12 hits in the sixth inning of the first 15 games of the season. Gerardo Reyes, recently out of his league debut last night, led David Peralta to open the round. Peralta reached the goal for the third time after being eliminated by a .478 strike against the Padres with five singles and six doubles. Reyes would make Walker look but give Eduardo Escobar a single on a good field outside the area. With the riders in the turns, Nick Ahmed scored to the right, scoring Peralta and transferring Escobar to third place. Carson Kelly followed with a brace that scored Escobar and ended Reyes' second big win. Right-hander Craig Stammen intervened relieved against Ildemaro Vargas, the left-handed batter. Ahmed and Kinsler scored for second and moved Kelly to third, but Tatis' mistake on a grounded ball by Jones dropped the match to 4-4.
Franmil Reyes broke the score in 7th place with a home run opposite to two outings, his third home run of the year. The big right defensive player made it look easy with a soft shot on a ball that broke in the outside corner.

Striking for the thrower in third place of the training, Jarrod Dyson took a walk to open the bottom of the seventh against Robert Stock. Dyson took second place on a wild course, and Peralta ran four runs, his fourth base. Andy Green has changed hands. Trey Wingenter immediately removed Dyson and caught him in a state of disrepair. Machado applied the tag and Peralta moved into second place. Christian Walker walked on a full account. Wingenter then plunged Escobar while loading the bases. Ahmed came to the plate and got a full account by taking five launches. Wingenter continued to carry his fastball, hitting 96 on the sixth throw to Ahmed, who bounced sharply on Wingenter to start a 1-2-3 double game. Infield's double play was only the Padres' fourth goal of the season, and he could not have come at a better time.
Kirby Yates launched the ninth for his ninth rescue of the year. He gave Ketel Marte a double but came back and swayed the side. Yates now has 17 strikeouts and only three goals in 10 innings. The Padres have used six relief workers in an already exhausted pen and, unfortunately, they do not have a day off until Wednesday.
The Padres are now 7-2 with one game to play in this road trip of ten games. Eric Lauer (2-1, 4.76 ERA) takes the mound for the Padres. Zack Greinke (1-1, 7.16) gets the ball for the Diamondbacks.
