Panthers and Robby Anderson agree to two-year extension of $ 29.5 million

Robby Anderson has further extended his unlikely NFL career.

The Carolina Panthers and the wide receiver have agreed to terms of a two-year, $ 29.5 million contract extension, with more than $ 20 million guaranteed, Ian Rapoport, NFL Network Insider reported Tuesday, sources said. Carolina subsequently announced the deal, which will run until the 2023 season.

Undrafted from Temple University in 2016, Anderson was a more than pleasant surprise as a rookie for the New York Jets, starting eight games and making 42 catches. His career took off from there, and the Panthers took him before last season on a two-year contract for $ 20 million, with $ 10 million guaranteed. He responded by posting career highs in starts (16), catches (95) and yards (1096).

The last pay was certainly due – Anderson was targeted more by the Panthers quarterbacks than any receiver on the team last year (136) and should again be a primary option for new QB Sam Darnold. The Panthers have invested a second-round pick for Anderson this year with Terrace Marshall Jr., but it’s clear Anderson’s place in the offense hasn’t changed.

Anderson recorded his first preseason catch last week for 16 yards against the Baltimore Ravens, and should see more action on Friday when the Panthers face the Pittsburgh Steelers in their final preseason game. Their newly paid wide receiver will face his former team, the Jets, in the opener of the regular season.
