CHARLOTTE – The Panthers are working on a second round of interviews as they narrow their slate of candidates for their vacant GM position.
After an initial round of 15 virtual interviews, the Panthers met with Titans director of player personnel Monti Ossenfort, 49ers vice president of player personnel Adam Peters, and deputy chiefs director of player personnel on Tuesday. Ryan Poles. Seahawks vice president of football operations Scott Fitterer had his second interview on Wednesday.
A decision is expected this week.
Peters has the closest connection to people at work, as he played defense at UCLA under the guidance of a few guys who would look very familiar. Panthers head coach Matt Rhule was their coach in 2001, and UCLA’s defensive coordinator that year was Phil Snow, who now holds that position with the Panthers.
Peters was with the Broncos before joining the 49ers, helping to build the team that beat the Panthers in Super Bowl 50. He also worked for the Patriots.
Fitterer was among the last to go through the first round of interviews, meeting Rhule and owner David Tepper on Monday via video conference before coming on Wednesday. He has worked for the Seahawks since 2001 and effectively operates there as a co-assistant general manager under John Schneider.
Poles, a former Boston College offensive lineman (where he blocked for Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan), has been with the Chiefs since 2009 and is the youngest of the four.
Ossenfort spent 15 years in the Patriots organization, before leaving the last offseason to join former colleagues Mike Vrabel and Jon Robinson in Tennessee.
