Paradox will announce a new big strategy game at PDXCON in Berlin

Paradox Interactive is expected to announce a new big strategy game at this year's PDXCON, which will take place in Berlin on October 19th and 20th. The company teased the announcement in a cheeky video released today.

"In October, we will take all [Paradox Development Studios], board a big plane and go to Berlin, "says Dan Lind, game director at Paradox for Hearts of Iron IV.

Dan Lind, another PDS game director, intervenes. "I'm also told that we are announcing something," he says, while the others briefly feign surprise.

The accompanying e-mail of course leaves the teasery cat out of the bag – Paradox will announce a new grand strategy title at the conference. But what remains is a mystery – which means it's time to guess. Would it be a new king of the Crusaders? Maybe Stellaris 2? Or maybe it's a completely new game, unfolding in one of the few historical eras that Paradox has not touched yet?

It could be just about anything, really. Except one thing.

"It's not Victoria III, you guys," says Henrik FĂ„hreus, director of the Crusader Kings II game.

Here is the video:

Fans will no doubt be disappointed to learn that the next match will not be a new Victoria. Victoria II, which covers the tumultuous nineteenth century in Europe, appeared long ago in 2010, and the big guys in the strategy are expecting a new one.

Tickets are still available for PDXCON, if you want to be at your fingertips when Paradox unveils what they are preparing next. Personally, I'd like to see them take another pin in East vs. Vs. West, the strategy of Hearts of Iron III, a strategic fallout from the Cold War that was canceled in 2014. And since they hold PDXCON in East Berlin, they will be in a perfect place to announce exactly that.
