Good news for Roku users (or, at least, Roku users desperate to get a taste of these delicious Real criminal minds): The streaming hardware company announced that for once you won’t have to wait months for licensing deals to be made in order to gain access to the vast abundance of content (?) available on Paramount Plus, a brand new but also somewhat old streaming service, on the company’s boxes. On the contrary, the new CBS All Access will be available on the first day of its availability, as well as for many negative first days before that. because, again, this is just the old CBS All Access with a bunch of new labels stuck all over it.
Anyway: that’s good news anyway, given how often the most convenient streaming hardware company is battling with major streamers over whether or not they will port their content. Arguments on the Roku cart, unsurprisingly, almost always come cash: The basic principle of the company since its hardware allows streamers to hook consumers more effectively – usually to services which provide said streamers with either subscription income, or advertising revenue – that it deserves a reduction in those profits. It was a lingering sticking point with NBCUniversal’s Peacock, for example, because Peacock operates from a proprietary ad serving model and NBC was unwilling to divest any of its ads load to a third party, whatever the utility of its boxes. (They finally reunited him in September of last year.) HBO Max was just as slow to get on board, although those issues were finally resolved in December.
Paramount Plus, meanwhile, likely builds on the agreements already in place for CBS All Access, a process that likely involved everyone was involved in a quick find and replace to replace the new name with the old one on existing contracts. Still, that’s good news if you want to watch Real world, or Spongebob, or just want to keep playing the absurd game of the streaming service Pokemon we are all now trapped, and are desperate to have an easy place to capture ’em all.
