Paramount + relies heavily on reboots and fallout for streaming service slate

ViacomCBS leans heavily on old favorites when it comes to complementing its upcoming streaming service Paramount +.

On Wednesday, the company highlighted a number of new film and TV projects it plans to bring to the platform after its debut on March 4. Many of these new titles will be familiar to audiences, as they will be reboots, spinoffs, or prequels to popular movies and series.

Paramount + will also host a number of original shows, films and documentaries, including a series based on the “Halo” video game franchise.

Additionally, content that was only available on CBS All-Access will be renamed under the Paramount + banner. This includes “Star Trek: Discovery”, “The Good Fight” and “Why Women Kill”.

The streaming service will contain over 2,500 films from franchise libraries such as “Mission Impossible”, “Transformers” and “Indiana Jones”.

Dates for the new lineup were not announced during the presentation, but Bob Bakish, President and CEO of ViacomCBS said Paramount + will launch 36 original series in its first year. The service will rely heavily on children’s programming, reality TV and scripted drama series.

Here’s a look at what’s to come to Paramount +:

“Criminal minds” – After 15 seasons and over 300 episodes, “Criminal Minds” took its reverence a little over a year ago. The top-rated series will return to Paramount + with each season exploring a single case over 10 episodes.

“Flash dance” – Set in the present, this drama series picks up where the original “Flashdance” left off. The story centers on a young woman’s struggles to make her mark in the ballet world while navigating money, romance, and friendship. “Mad Men” writer Tracy McMillian writes and produces the series.

“Halo” – The iconic video game franchise will come to Paramount + as a series. The story will be set in the 26th century amid an alien threat known as the Pact.

“Land Man” – The series is set in West Texas and follows “Fools and Wild Billionaires” as they seek their fortune in the world of oil rigs.

“Love story” – Based on the film of the same name, “Love Story” will be produced by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, who worked on “Gossip Girl”, “The OC” and “Looking for Alaska”.

“Mayor of Kingstown” – Located in a town where the incarceration trade is the only thriving industry, the “Mayor of Kingstown” follows the McLusky family, the town’s power brokers. The show tackles the themes of systematic racism, corruption and inequality.

“Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” – A “Star Trek: Discover” spin-off, “Strange New Worlds” is based on the years when Captain Christopher Pike led the USS Enterprise. Science Officer Spock features prominently in the series, which takes place a decade before the arrival of James T. Kirk.

“Italian work” – When Charlie Croker’s grandchildren inherit his old safe, the quest for the infamous Italian ingot is revived.

“The man who fell to earth” – Based on Walter Tevis’ novel of the same name, “The Man Who Fell to Earth” stars Chiwetel Ejiofor. The series follows a new alien character who arrives on Earth at a turning point in human evolution.

“The offer” – This limited series is based on the experiences of producer Al Ruddy in creating “The Godfather”.

“The Parallax View” – The series is based on the film “The Parallax View”, a political thriller which starred Warren Beatty in the 70s.

“Y: 1883” – An account of western expansion, “Y: 1883” is a prequel to “Yellowstone”. He follows the Dutton family as they head west across the Great Plains.

“6666” – Another working title, this “Yellowstone” derivative show takes place at 6666 Ranch, a working ranch in Texas.

“Avatar” – Nickelodeon has created a new animation studio division dedicated to creating content based on the world of “Avatar: The Last Airbender” and “The Legend of Korra”. Original creators Mike DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko will lead the charge in partnering with animation studio Nickelodeon to create a wide range of Avatar-inspired content, from spinoffs and theaters to short form.

“Dora the Explorer”– Paramount + will host a live action series based on “Dora the Explorer”.

“iCarly” – Taking place ten years after the events of the first ‘iCarly’ series, this new show follows the characters played by Miranda Cosgrove, Nathan Kress and Jerry Trainor in their current lifetimes.

“Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years” – The first “Spongebob Squarepants” spin-off, “Kamp Koral” is a CG animated series that sees the iconic Bikini Bottom crew when they first meet at summer camp.

“Rugrats” – Paramount + will also host a CG version of the ’90s hit “Rugrats”. The original voice is ready to return.

“Star Trek: Prodigy” – This series is suitable for children, but still contains all the characteristics of a true Star Trek adventure.

“My sponsors are magic” – Long-running Nickelodeon animated series is rotating live on Paramount +.

“Big Brother Live Feeds” – An in-depth look at what’s going on inside the “Big Brother” house.

“Naked meeting” – This reboot brings together potential couples for a first date without clothes.

“Ink Masters” – Previously canceled, “Ink Masters” takes on new life on Paramount +. The show centers on the country’s top tattoo artists as they go head to head in challenges that test their technical and creative skills.

“Love Island on Paramount +” – This series is an extension of the content seen on CBS. This will allow subscribers to see more than what was shown during the live broadcast.

“Queen of the universe” – This singing contest brings drag queens from all over the world to compete to see who is the “queen of the universe”.

“Rules of the road” – Another revamp of a classic reality TV show is “Road Rules,” which sees strangers stranded in desolate places stripped of their modern luxuries. They have to follow a set of clues and do odd jobs for money.

“RuPaul All Stars Drag Race” – The best “Drag Race” contestants return for a chance to win $ 100,000 and a coveted place in the “Drag Race Hall of Fame”.

“The challenge: all the stars“- This series brings back 22 contestants from the original” Real World “and” Road Rules “shows to compete for a prize of $ 500,000.

“The Real World: Homecoming: New York” – Thirty years later, Paramount + reunites the original cast of the first season of “The Real World”. The seven strangers will return to the New York loft where the series began.

“Frasier” – Kelsey Grammer returns as Dr. Frasier Crane in Paramount + reboot of “Fraiser”.

“Grease: The Rise of the Pink Ladies” – This prequel series takes place before “Grease” and tells how Frenchy’s older sister, Jane, founded the Pink Ladies.

“Guilty party” – This dark comedy stars Kate Beckinsale as a discredited journalist who finds herself above her head as she clings to the story of a young mother sentenced to life in prison for the murder of her husband – a crime she claims not to have committed.

“Inside Amy Schumer” – The Peabody and Emmy Award-winning show returns with five specials featuring Amy Schumer.

“Reno 911! The hunt for QAnon ” – Paramount + is touting this as a “big event” based on the long-running Comedy Central series “Reno 911!”

“The game” – This BET sitcom returns with a mix of its original cast and new players. It offers a look at black culture through the prism of professional football.

“The Harper House” – An animated comedy, “The Harper House” follows an overconfident female head of a household after losing her job and forced to move from the rich side to the poor side of a small town in Arkansas.

“The Weekly Show with Trevor Noah” – While Paramount + is still working on a title for this project, he said the show will feature Trevor Noah as he dissects stories in the news, speaking to the people behind the headlines.

“Younger” – The final season of “Younger” will come to Paramount +.

“Beavis & Butt-head Movie Untitled” – The MTV animated series gets a feature film ahead of its new series.

“Film about workaholics” – Paramount + is creating a film based on the longtime popular Comedy Central series “Workaholics”.
