"Parks and Recreation" Leaves Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime – Here's When and Why

Just like our goodbye in tears to Li'l Sebastian, users of streaming will miss Parks and Recreation in the saddest way when the NBC series leaves Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime. But why, on behalf of waffles, friends and work, Parks and Rec to be removed from the top three of the streaming giants? The series is perhaps one of the most popular comedies of all time, Parks and Rec moves to a place exclusively.

The news comes a few weeks after NBC's withdrawal Office and Warner Bros. removed friends of the future Netflix catalog. So, if you are sorry to lose another popular sitcom, do not worry. Here's what we know about the big move, including when Parks and Rec will leave the three streaming platforms.

Why is Parks and Recreation leaving Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime?

In all honesty, it was only a matter of time until that Parks and Rec has been removed from Netflix, Hulu and Amazon. NBCUniversal has announced a new streaming service called Peacock. Shortly after, the company announced Office will be added exclusively to Peacock. And now, Parks and Rec will follow, with the seven seasons and 125 episodes going to the new streaming service.

That being said, NBC's exclusive acquisition of Parks and Rec could not have been cheap. As indicated by Deadline, the network has paid 500 million dollars to move Office out of Netflix in January 2021. And while Parks and Rec may not reach the price of Office, the publication indicated that the cost would be in the 9-digit range.

When will Parks and Recreation leave Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime?

The loss of Parks and Rec on Netflix, Hulu and Amazon will be great, especially for cable cutters. However, you can currently watch each episode on each platform. But how long do you have before the comedy leaves for his new home on Peacock? Well, to date, you still have plenty of time to watch comedy on NBC. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Parks and Rec will switch from the three streaming services to Peacock in October 2020.

Given the planned launch of Peacock in April 2020, it seems that neither Parks and Rec or Office will be available immediately. Nevertheless, the streaming service will start with non-exclusive programs such as 30 Rock, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Friday night lights, Saturday Night Live, and Will & Grace – Just to name a few. And although these titles are available on other platforms, it seems that NBC plans to make them exclusive in the future.

"This has a lot to do with the market right now and what's available and what's not," said Bonnie Hammer, president of NBCUniversal, specializing in direct sales to consumers and digital businesses. "We will invest smartly and strategically."

With new services such as Peacock, Disney + and HBO Max on the horizon, it seems like the streaming continues as we know it will never be the same again. The new platforms acquire the exclusive ownership of popular titles such as Parks and Recreation, friends, and Office. And of course, that means people will buy multiple subscriptions to see shows already available on Netflix, Hulu or Amazon. Frankly, we feel that this evolution to many streaming sites is going to be worse than cable. But we'll just have to see what happens next.
