A smart parrot figured out how to chat with Alexa, using the electronic assistant to add items to the shopping list and control the lights.

The Congo African gray parrot named Max has a large vocabulary, which includes the ability to order the Amazon gadget.

The parrot’s owner shared the bird’s hilarious conversations on his TikTok and Instagram accounts, @ maxtheafricangrey2000, as Max Franklin.

One clip, shared last week, has racked up 7.5 million views alone and shows the parrot – in a distinct human-sounding voice – saying “Alexa.” In the background, the distinctive sound of the activated assistant can be heard.

The 21-year-old parrot then adds food to the weekly shop, while Max goes to “add pulled pork.” In comedic scenes, the device then responds to the bird by saying, “You already have pulled pork on your shopping list.

This likely explains where Max originally picked up the phrase, after hearing their owner thought they lived in Buffalo, New York, putting him on the grocery list. The video’s captions for the brilliant exchange simply say, “Alexa is adding pulled pork to my shopping list hahahaha.”

But it’s not just food that Max asks Alexa, as the bird cleverly uses the gadget to turn on the lights. Another clip captures the bird, which has a lifespan of around 60 years according to World Animal Protection, requesting a lightning change, as the bulb lights up above their cage.

While separate clips reveal Max also figured out how to use Alexa to turn on the radio, showing the bird asking for songs, including rap music, sometimes in the early hours of the morning.

“Tell Alexa to play 97 Rock and call my dog brothers to listen,” the owner captioned another video, as Alexa responds to Max saying, “Here’s a station you might like, rock classical, music from Amazon. “

Gray parrots are known to learn around 100 words, demonstrated by one of the most famous of the species, Alex, who died in 2007, according to The New York Times.

In addition to the words, the insightful Max was also filmed imitating a cough, after his owner caught a cold. “My human has a cold and I think so do I!” They captioned the clip.

Many people commented on Max’s skills and vocabulary in the viral video, with Nicholette_odenbach asking, “You’re kidding me.”

Joanmarie723 thought, “Wow, he’s good at imitating.”

“He knew what he was doing,” Mo said.

Casey Nelson thought, “Sneaky little bird”

And that’s me Valerie 2020 added, “It’s amazing. Animals are very intelligent.”
