MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Florida – The Palmetto Highway closed in both directions between Coral Way and Southwest 8th Street on Tuesday afternoon as a group of protesters took to the streets in solidarity with the Cuban people.
Florida Highway Patrol cars are on site and drivers are urged to avoid the area. The Florida toll highway can be used as an alternate route.
Thousands of Cuban Americans have gathered in South Florida since Sunday to support Cubans who have joined street marches against high prices, food shortages and COVID-19 conditions on the island. Such unauthorized protests are extremely rare and Cuban police have intervened to control them.
