FOXBORO, Mass. – Patrick Chung met with the media on Monday for the first time since the announcement of the indictment for possession of cocaine, announced last week.
Patriots' security veterans have kept their brief answers and interest in the New England pre-season final against the New York Giants, which will take place Thursday night at Gillette Stadium.
"If you want to talk a bit about football," he says, "we can talk a little football. I am here to prepare for the Giants. "
Chung was charged on August 8th following an incident at his home in Meredith, N.H., on June 25th. Chung, who apparently was not home at the time, pleaded not guilty Monday and waived his indictment scheduled for Wednesday. He was asked how he was able to stay focused on his work despite these legal issues.
"I just work and play," Chung said. "I go to meetings, go to the game book and come back. I'm coming out of an injury, so I'm trying to come back. "
Chung underwent surgery in the off-season on his forearm and shoulder and has not played in pre-season yet. However, he stated that he had not lost perspective in his recovery and had recently managed to abandon the contactless red jersey he was wearing throughout the training camp.
"It feels good," said Chung. "It's a bit difficult to train with a red jersey in the pads, so I feel good going out and doing some physics and using my body a bit. So it was good. I feel good. … I no longer have the red jersey, so it's a step in the right direction. "
Chung did not say he hoped to be ready to play in time for the first day of the regular season against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
