Patrick Mahomes clarifies Justin Herbert’s comment: “My garbage speech was taken out of context”

Everything is fair in love, war and football. So when Patrick Mahomes was playfully berated by fans of other AFC West teams while competing at the American Championship of the Century in Lake Tahoe, he made sure they could take what they were giving. One fan in particular wanted to make sure the former league MVP knew there was something special in the works with the Los Angeles Chargers – warning Mahomes to “watch out for Justin Herbert” in 2021.

With a playful smile, Mahomes retaliated with a shot heard in the NFL world.

“I’ll see it when I believe it,” Mahomes said.

What he definitely meant was, “I’ll believe it when I see it.”

Regardless, the video has gone viral and Mahomes now thinks it’s safe to clarify that what he said was not a shot against Herbert at all, but rather a fun football joke with the fans of rival teams.

“Yeah, I think it was taken out of context,” Mahomes told USA Today. “I was talking about trash to all those Raiders, Broncos and Chargers fans. I have a lot of respect for him as a player.… For him to come out in freshman and play at that level is a special thing.

“Not many guys can do that. And I know I’ll have a lot of tough games against him in the future. So it was kind of a joke that I think blew up on Twitter like most things to do. . “

Herbert entered the NFL as the sixth overall pick in 2020, and to say he hit the ground running is an understatement.
