Four members of the New England Patriots practice squad have been called up for Sunday’s visit to NRG Stadium, including former Houston Texans undrafted free agent James Ferentz.
The veteran inside lineman will serve as a Covid-19 replacement with defensive back Myles Bryant. Additionally, guards Alex Redmond and Will Sherman will serve as standard elevations.
Ferentz, 32, has appeared in 24 games and has landed four starts for New England since joining in 2017. The Iowa product has made previous NFL saves with Houston and the Denver Broncos, winning a pair of Super Bowl rings.
Bryant, 23, signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent from Washington in 2020. Between cornerback and safety, Bryant appeared in nine games as a rookie to record 12 tackles and one interception. He played nine snaps in defense and one special teams snap as a rise last week.
Redmond, 26, entered the league with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent from UCLA in 2016. He arrived at Foxborough in May with 32 games and 24 starts on his resume before starting. in September in the training team.
Sherman, 22, was selected by New England in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft in 197th overall. The guard tackle by Colorado joined the practice squad in training after clearing the waivers.
All are expected to return on Monday.
Left tackle Isaiah Wynn and left guard Mike Onwenu remain on the Covid-19 reserve list for the Patriots. And right tackle Trent Brown, who has since been placed in the injured reserve, as well as right guard Shaq Mason were excluded from the final injury report for the week. The absences leave center and captain David Andrews as the remaining 20% of the starting offensive line against Houston.
New England also demoted outside linebacker Ronnie Perkins and cornerback Jalen Mills from questionable on the eve of the 1 p.m. ET kickoff.
