The New England Patriots added to their broad body of recipients a free power. They sign a one-year contract with slot receiver Bruce Ellington, according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL network.

Ellington, 27, has played 44 career games with the 49ers, Texans and Lions. In total, he made 79 catches for 769 yards and 5 touchdowns. He also has experience as a returning player, with 50 career returns and 48 career returns.

With the Patriots, Ellington has a chance to make an impact as a receiver of slot machines and fill the gap left by the return player of the kicks, Cordarrelle Patterson. He joins a receiver depth card in New England including Julian Edelman, Phillip Dorsett, Braxton Berrios and Damoun Patterson.

Ellington signed with the Patriots shortly after their visit Thursday, alongside teammate Maurice Harris.

The veteran receiver has had good games against the Patriots. At the opening of the 2018 season at Gillette Stadium, playing for Texans, he collected four catches for 37 yards and a touchdown. In the third week of 2017 at Gillette, also with the Texans, he made four catches for 59 yards and one score.

The biggest question facing Ellington is not his ability to enroll or produce in the Patriots' offensive, but his ability to stay healthy. He was hamstring injured throughout his career and even had some of his hamstrings removed surgically. He was also injured in the back last season with the Lions.
