Folks, we are not pleased to report this, but we have analyzed the numbers and studied the data and it looks like Hollywood might have a tie problem. Massive, so true. The last: Wonder woman director Patty jenkins recently appeared for a great talk on the Happy Sad Confused podcast and went into great detail about the truly gigantic pay disparities that almost caused her to walk away from the sequel, Wonder Woman 1984.

For those who don’t know, as a result of Wonder woman Cashing in $ 882 million and becoming the DCEU’s highest-rated film, it took a strangely long time for Warner Bros. to name director Jenkins in the sequel. When the deal was finally signed, it was reported Jenkins had rightly exploited her position for the kind of massive salary she deserved. According to the filmmaker, the discussions almost broke down.

“I started to pull away,” Jenkins said. “I was going to go. I even said I would be happy to go to another studio and earn an extra quarterback because it’s not a sequel, in principle, no problem.”

Jenkins explained that it was not difficult to know how many more male independent filmmakers made on their first comic book film, compared to his overall salary on Wonder woman and beyond.

“It’s interesting as someone who never made a profit in my career until Wonder Woman, that I’ve always been at peace with that. I was like, ‘Hey, I get it.’ But now I’m like, ‘Look, I’ve never made any money in my career because you’ve always had leverage and I haven’t.’ But now the shoe is on the other foot, so it’s time to turn it around. I don’t mean a quote system that locked me in and that’s not even true. It was easy to see that all the men, had quotes, they had made an independent film and then a first [superhero] movie. They got paid seven times more than me for the first superhero movie. Then on the second, they were paid more than me again. It was an easy fight to say, “It can’t be. It can’t be great. And it really can’t be on Wonder Woman … It was an interesting thing to do, but it was an easy thing to do in the fact that I was very serious. I was like, “If I can’t be victorious in this regard, then I’m letting everyone down.” If not me, who? So it became something that I became very, very, very passionate about. ”
