Paul Ryan Researched Narcissistic Personality Disorder After Trump Win, Book Says

Business Insider obtained a copy of their book, “Peril,” and reported that Ryan was caught off guard by Trump’s victory over Hillary ClintonHillary Diane Rodham Clinton Pennsylvania GOP allows subpoenas in election inquiry. But realizing that he was going to need to work with Trump and since the GOP controls both the House and the Senate, Ryan began to research how to work with someone “amoral and transactional,” according to the book.

Ryan was also reportedly told by a wealthy doctor, a Republican donor, that he needed to “understand what narcissistic personality disorder is.” The doctor explained his “thoughts on how best to deal with someone with antisocial personality disorder” in an email, with links to articles and information on the disorder, according to the book.

“Ryan studied them for weeks, convinced that Trump had a personality disorder,” write Woodward and Costa.

Trump and Ryan clashed after Trump publicly defended the neo-Nazis who sparked a violent riot in Charlottesville, Virginia in 2017.

“White supremacy is disgusting,” Ryan tweeted at the time, calling for rioters. “This bigotry goes against everything this country stands for. There can be no moral ambiguity.”

Woodward and Costa write that Trump later called Ryan enraged by the statement. Trump reportedly shouted: “You are not in the shooting hole with me!”

“Have you finished?” Ryan screamed back, according to their book. “May I have a little time to speak now? You are the President of the United States. You have a moral obligation to do things right and not to declare that there is a moral equivalence here.”

However, Trump pushed his heels down and replied, “These people love me. They are my people. I cannot stab the people who support me.”

Trump reportedly gave in after Ryan called his attention to neo-Nazis in the crowd.

“Well, yeah, there are bad people,” Trump said, according to the book. “I understand. I’m not for it. I’m against it. But there are some of those people who are for me. Some of them are good people.”

Trump and Ryan continued to fight throughout Ryan’s tenure as president.
