Former House Speaker Paul Ryan reiterated this week that it is “clear” that former President Donald Trump lost the 2020 election while GOP leaders in Wisconsin, a state he has represented in Congress for 20 years, continue to investigate and audit the results.
“It wasn’t rigged. It wasn’t stolen. Donald Trump lost the election. Joe Biden won the election. It’s very clear,” Ryan told WISN 12, an ABC affiliate based in the Wisconsin, in an interview published Tuesday.
Almost 10 months after the presidential race, Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos is still overseeing an audit and investigation into the 2020 election headed by former Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice Michael Gabelman, who visited both the site of a GOP-backed election review in Arizona and the cyber-symposium of election conspirator and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell.
The election inquiry could cost Wisconsin taxpayers up to $ 680,000.
“He has run out of things. He has run out of court challenges. None of them went his way, so he legitimately lost,” Ryan told WISN 12 of Trump’s election defeat. “Is there any mischief, organized shenanigans during the elections? Of course. Is there fraud? Yes. Was it organized to the point of rocking the Electoral College and the presidential election? Absolutely not. ”
The effort to audit the Wisconsin election results will not be a full recount and scrutiny of the ballot like the one the Arizona State Senate gave the go-ahead to Cyber Ninjas in the county of Maricopa, according to Vos. Arizona’s audit has been widely criticized for its sloppy practices and partisanship.

Vos described his initiative as a “forensic” and “cyber-criminal” audit, which are not types of audits defined or performed by professional election officials. Investigators “can refer things to a prosecutor. This does not mean a manual recount, or that computers will be used,” he said, according to the Kenosha News.
“If we need summonses, I have no problem issuing them. If Judge Gableman requests them, I will issue them without hesitation.” Vos has informed the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel of the investigation.
The Sentinel Journal reported that while the full scope of the Wisconsin audit is unclear so far, it is likely to include reviews of absentee voting in nursing homes and compliance with the state voter identification requirement for postal ballots, with the aim of informing future legislation.
Biden won Wisconsin by more than 20,000 votes in 2020, a victory asserted by two Trump campaign-telling machines demanded – and paid for – $ 3 million – in the heavily Democratic counties of Dane and Milwaukee.
Last week, Vos traveled in a private plane with Trump himself to one of the former president’s gatherings in Alabama, say on twitter that he “provided him with details of our vigorous efforts to restore full integrity and confidence in the elections.”
“He wants to make sure at the end of the day that what happened in Wisconsin was fair and honest,” Vos told the Journal Sentinel.
Ryan, for his part, sees the insanity among state and local GOP officials continuing to respond to Trump’s electoral whims and lies.
“I think it’s a big mistake for the Republican Party to be a party about a person or a personality,” Ryan told WISN 12. “And I think we’ll continue to lose if we we’re surrounded by one person. We haven’t lost that much so quickly in a long, long time. “
