While convention organizers were hopeful until the last minute, it turns out that early June was still a bit too early for thousands of players to descend on Boston for PAX East 2021. The live event now has canceled, replaced by a special PAX Online event July 15-18.

Last year’s PAX East in Boston, which ran from Feb.27 to March 1, was one of the last major live-game conventions to take place before covid-19 shut everything down, though exhibitors like Sony have withdrawn at the last minute due to health and safety issues. These concerns continue into 2021, and while Penny Arcade and ReedPop are still hoping for PAX West and PAX Unplugged in September and December respectively, it is still too early for a June 3-6 PAX East. Fortunately, the convention organizers haven’t sold tickets for this year’s PAX East, nor have they sold any exhibitor space, so the cancellation shouldn’t cause anyone major concern.

Instead of PAX East, Penny Arcade and ReedPop are doing what they did to PAX West in September of last year, hosting a massive online event in its stead. Look for more on these plans soon.
