PAX still plans to host its in-person game festivals in 2021

ReedPop and Penny Arcade, the organizers of the PAX gaming conventions, announced on Friday that they plans to take over PAX East, West and Unplugged in 2021. The organizers plan to hold these events as long as it is safe to do so.

Organizers have announced that they have no plans to host PAX South next year, but the show will return in 2022, while information on PAX Australia will follow “in the coming weeks.” As for other PAX conventions, the venues remain unchanged, but PAX East dates, typically held in March at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, have been pushed back to the summer.

With the support of local governments and health officials and “pending an improvement in the global COVID-19 situation”, gaming conventions are expected to return with PAX East in Boston from June 3-6. PAX West will also be back, with the four-day event taking place September 3-6. PAX Unplugged will run from December 10 to 12. More information on the three events will be shared next year.

The last in-person convention was held in February with PAX East. Following security concerns related to COVID-19, organizers improved their cleaning and sanitation efforts during the event. But despite plans to hold PAX West in Seattle over the Labor Day weekend, organizers canceled the in-person event and switched to a nine-day conference online only.
