A director of the Miller Hill Mall Payless shoe store in Duluth asked about the fate of the operation at the company's headquarters. But calls and emails to the Topeka-based company, Kans.- have remained unanswered.
Signs at the Miller Hill Mall Payless store were posted, indicating "Everything Must Go" and "All Final Sales".
Payless ShoeSource filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in April 2017 and closed hundreds of stores while it was trying to reorganize itself and free itself of its debt.
A group of creditors, including Alden Global Capital LLC, has taken over the discount shoe retailer, but no buyer has emerged, so the group began liquidating the chain's inventory this weekend.
Payless was founded in 1956 and had approximately 3,600 physical stores in January, including approximately 2,300 in the United States, operating in all 50 US states.
