PC gamers will get Hitman 2 levels for free in Hitman 3 after all

Last week, IO Interactive said that players should own Hitman 2 on the Epic Games Store if they wanted to import their levels into Hitman 3. It was pretty bad – for game owners on Steam, that meant you couldn’t also not have it those levels, or you will have to buy it again. Fortunately, IO is looking for a solution and guarantees that players won’t need to buy the game back after all.

“We continue to work with our partners to allow PC gamers who own Hitman 1 or Hitman 2 to import locations from these games on no additional costs, ” they said sunday.

“We guarantee that players DO NOT need to redeem these games. “

(Emphasis in bold and capitals of IO.)

The problem is, Hitman 1 and 2 originally came out on Steam, while Hitman 3 launched as an Epic exclusive. In August, IO announced that “locations 1 and 2 can be imported at no additional cost to existing owners”. But they revealed on Friday that it didn’t matter to Steam owners and that they would have to purchase the Hitman 2 Access Pass on Epic to get those slots.

However, IO is working with Epic to sort things out and says the change will roll out “in the coming weeks” – which is inconvenient given that Hitman 3 launches in just two days, on Wednesday, January 20.

“We never want players to feel pressured into repurchasing content from the Epic Game Store that they purchased from another PC store in order to be able to access the features of a new game,” Epic said on Sunday.

The Hitman 1 GOTY Access Pass is still free for PC gamers who pre-order Hitman 3 or purchase it within 10 days of launch. So, at the very least, you will have a few levels of Hitman 1 to play until the Hitman 2 drama is dealt with.
