In episode six of the series, the students at Bayside High have their phones taken away and cannot immediately confirm the pop culture news. In one scene, two students are speculating on Gomez’s kidney donor, despite the star’s public announcement that she received the 2017 transplant from her friend, Francia Raísa. “I know for a fact that Selena Gomez’s kidney donor was Justin Bieber’s mother. God, I wish I had my phone so I could prove it, ”says one character.
“Prove what?” the other student asks in response. “That you are an idiot?” It was Demi Lovato’s kidney. They are best friends, like you and me.
Another scene shows graffiti on the hallway wall that says, “Does Selena Gomez even have a kidney?”
While Gomez has yet to address the controversy, Raísa took to Twitter over the weekend in response to the apology released by Peacock. “We appreciate the apologies, but let’s not forget the donors who have felt potentially offended and dismissed by the spray paint written on the wall,” she wrote.
