Bruce Pearl will not leave Auburn any time soon.

The Tigers basketball coach on Friday agreed to a five-year extension that would yield a big pay raise and a massive buyout. It will earn $ 3.8 million annually from the 2019-2020 season with automatic escalators generating a $ 125,000 increase each season. The contract totals $ 19,625,000.

Pearl has only earned $ 2.6 million during the 2018-2019 season.

The agreement also includes $ 500,000 in reserve funds, which Pearl can distribute to his assistants at his discretion.

"I would like to thank President (Steven) Leath, Allen Greene and the Board of Directors for their belief. The investment in me and my staff demonstrates their support for the upcoming men's basketball program, "said Pearl in a statement. I am grateful to my coaches and support staff for putting in place a competitive men's basketball program. I am grateful to our players for having accepted, worked extremely hard and represented what is an Auburn man and a student-athlete. We have the best fan base in America. The Auburn family is real and, with The Jungle, creates a unique gaming atmosphere. It's great to be an Auburn tiger. "

If Pearl leaves before June 30, 2020, he will need $ 8 million at the university. Redemption will decrease by $ 2 million each summer.
