Pederson clashes with a fence and hurts in the abdomen

LOS ANGELES – A sensational afternoon for Joc Pederson ended prematurely on Monday, when the Los Angeles Dodgers' right defensive player was pulled out of the match with a tummy contusion shortly after the collision with the fence.

Pederson, who dominated in two of his first three appearances at the plate, denied Colorado Rockies fighter Charlie Blackmon a run by reaching the short fence in the right field at the fifth inning. However, Pederson immediately collapsed to the ground, writhing in pain for several minutes, while three nearby security guards hovered around him. He finally got up, then cautiously left the field, replaced by Enrique Hernandez.

The Dodgers, who hope to stay healthy before the playoffs, are already missing Alex Verdugo and Max Muncy, two major forces in their lineup. Pederson started the first game of the series with a victory from Peter Lambert. His second straight-field run rebounded near the top of the fence, forcing him to settle for a brace, but Pederson left no doubt with a 416-foot circuit at three points in the third.

The explosion earned Pederson 30 home runs for the season, making him the third Dodger player to reach this milestone.
