Pedri put on a show for Barcelona against Athletic on Wednesday night, scoring his third goal of the season to make it 1-1 after Inaki Williams opened the scoring.

The 18-year-old leaned over to get ahead of goalkeeper Unai Simon after good work from Lionel Messi and Frenkie de Jong.

Pedri spoke to reporters after the game and said he thought it was the first header he had ever scored.

“We knew it was an important game. We knew they would be looking for Inaki with his speed and that’s how they scored the first goal, but we passed him and took three very important points.

“If you concede a goal early you can put your head down, but we showed a lot of confidence and that didn’t happen. I don’t think I’ve ever scored a header in my life. I followed the ball into the box and was able to finish.

The youngster didn’t stop there though. He produced another assist for Messi to make it 2-1 before half-time and also spoke of the move afterwards.

“Leo’s first goal was a super fast move. He walked past me and yelled at me, otherwise I wouldn’t have seen him. Luckily the guard came out and it went well.

“I’m very happy with my performance and even more so because we won. The season is long and we will continue to fight for the top spot.

Messi added a third to secure all three points, although he also gave the ball late, which allowed Iker Munain to pull one off.

It’s a good victory for Barcelona who put the team in third place in the table. The next stop for Ronald Koeman’s men is a trip to Granada on Saturday.
