Pedro Pascal to star as Joel in HBO video game-based series ‘The Last Of Us’ – Deadline

EXCLUSIVE: In one of the biggest TV castings of the year, The Mandalorian Star Pedro Pascal set to make headlines The last of us, The HBO series adaptation of the Sony Playstation franchise of Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.

Based on the critically acclaimed video game The last of us, developed by Naughty Dog exclusively for PlayStation platforms, the story takes place twenty years after the destruction of modern civilization. Joel (Pascal), a hardened survivor, is hired to pass Ellie (The iron Throne‘Bella Ramsey), a 14-year-old girl, out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts out as a small job soon turns into a brutal, heart-wrenching journey, as they both have to cross the United States and depend on each other for survival.

Pascal’s Joel, tormented by past traumas and failures, must traverse an America ravaged by a pandemic, while protecting a girl who represents humanity’s last hope.

It marks a homecoming for Pascal who has become a household name with his role as Oberyn Martell in the HBO mega hit. Game of thrones.

Pascal currently stars in the hugely popular and acclaimed Disney + series The Mandalorian, which recently received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Drama Series. I hear he should continue on the Star wars series, where it is used sparingly due to the premise of its character, although The last of us has it in first position.

The actor recently became available for a new series, attracting several big deals from top premium networks and streamers, choosing to do The last of us.

Pascal just played the role of the villain, Max Lord, in Wonder Woman 1984. The Narcos and Kingsman: the golden circle star is currently in production on Judd Apatow’s The bubble for Netflix. He is replaced by WME, Anonymous Content and Jackoway Austen Tyerman.

Kantemir Balagov directs the pilot episode of The last of us, a co-production with Sony Pictures Television. PlayStation Productions, Word Games, The Mighty Mint and Naughty Dog.

Druckmann and Mazin write and produce executives; Carolyn Strauss (Game of Thrones, Chernobyl) also executive producer with Naughty Dog chairman Evan Wells alongside Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan of PlayStation Productions.
