Peggy Lipton, the actress who first knew the glory of "The Mod Squad" in the 1960s, then drew a new generation of "Twin Peaks" fans, died, according to reports.
Lipton, 72, former wife of music producer Quincy Jones, has succumbed to cancer, the Los Angeles Times reported.

His death was announced Saturday by girls Kidada and Rashida Jones.
"She made her journey peacefully with her daughters and nieces by her side," Lipton's daughter said in a statement, according to the newspaper L.A. Times. "We feel so lucky for every moment we spent with her."
Lipton was born in New York in 1946 and began modeling at age 15, the L.A. Times reported. When she started playing, she appeared on shows such as "Bewitched" and "The Magical World of Disney", before winning the role of Julie Barnes in "The Mod Squad". The 1968-1973 police detective series was revolutionary because it was one of the first television series to recognize counter-culture and to present an interracial cast, the Times said.
When Lipton married Quincy Jones, a black man, in 1974, she found herself a pioneer.

"I've never seen myself as a trend creator," Lipton told L.A. Times in 1993. "We were still working. The celebrity really drove me home. I was very paranoid. I did not like going out. I had no idea how to be comfortable with the press. I was very young. It was really hard for me.
In recent years, Lipton has seen her 43-year-old daughter Rashida Jones become a successful actress, including roles in the "The Office" series. Girl Kidada Jones, 45, is an actress, model and fashion designer.
