House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has asked retired Lt. Gen. Russel Honoré to lead “an immediate review” of the security of the U.S. Capitol complex after pro-Trump armed insurgencies sacked it last week .

“To protect our democracy, we must now subject the security of the US Capitol complex to a rigorous review,” Pelosi said in a statement. “To this end, I asked Lieutenant General Russel Honoré (Retired), a respected leader with experience in crisis management, to lead an immediate review of Capitol Hill security infrastructure, interagency processes and procedures, as well as command and control.

In 2005, Honoré headed the task force responsible for the US military response to Hurricane Katrina.

Honoré called the Capitol’s response to the attack an “s — show”.

“For the record, I served on the Chief of Staff as a J3 operations deputy, my job was military support to civilian authority. I usually know how this shit supposed to happen today secure the capital It was a shitty spectacle today. @CapitalpoliceLS were on their ass @ 11thHour, “he said in a Tweeter January 6th.

Last Wednesday, Trump supporters violated the U.S. Capitol and clashed with law enforcement as Congress discussed the challenges of electoral votes before certifying Biden’s election. Pro-Trump mobs have ransacked offices, stolen and vandalized property.

This week, the House of Representatives impeached Trump for “inciting insurgency,” a charge for his role in inciting an attempted coup on Capitol Hill that resulted in the deaths of five people.

The Honoré investigation comes as inspectors general from several federal agencies also announced investigations into security and intelligence information about the riot, the Washington Post reported.

The Ministries of Justice, Defense, Interior and Homeland Security all appointed internal investigators to examine what was known in advance of the January 6 event and what was done. .

There have been a number of reports indicating a lack of action on key security information.

On January 5, an FBI report warned that pro-Trump insurgents were planning to wage a “war” on the United States Capitol the next day.

Earlier this week, it was also found that dozens of people on the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s terrorist watch list – primarily those classified as white supremacists – were in Washington, DC, on January 6.

The Post reported that law enforcement officials have so far opened nearly 300 cases of people under investigation for rioting and filed 98 criminal cases. They also received over 100,000 tips.

Honoré, who retired in 2008, is known as an abrasive, no-frills leader who has been praised for his leadership after Katrina, CNN reported. Its slogan was “Don’t get stuck on stupid”.

After the US response to the New Orleans natural disaster was criticized, Honoré’s efforts to transform the role of the military and help soldiers work as first responders drew praise.

“He got out of the doggone helicopter and he started cursing and people started moving,” former New Orleans mayor Ray Nagin said of Honore.
