House Speaker Nancy Pelosi rejected Governor Cuomo’s claim that a $ 50 billion federal aid package for the state was insufficient.

In the letter, Pelosi said the actual money the Empire State was about to receive was already closer to $ 70 billion.
“Overall, New York State will receive over $ 50 billion in public and local funding, and over $ 20 billion in additional funding to support the health, financial security and well-being of families She wrote.
The Pelosi missive was the latest in a furious letter between the state and the speaker. NY House Dems sent Pelosi a letter asking for more money on Tuesday. This followed an earlier note by Cuomo to the entire state delegation last week, asking for at least an additional $ 15 billion in aid.
The state bailout will come from Joe Biden’s $ 1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package, which is currently going through Congress.
Right now, the package gives New York $ 12.6 billion in coronavirus relief funding; $ 10.64 billion for local governments; $ 12.3 billion for schools and $ 8.8 billion for the state’s still underfunded transit system.
The state faces a $ 63 billion deficit in revenue that fell in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
