House tenant Nancy Pelosi declined to answer questions about whether she would approve the GOP choices of parliamentary minority leader Kevin McCarthy, including the representative. Jim jordan, R-Ohio, to serve on the president’s committee investigating the Jan.6 Capitol Riot.

McCarthy, R-Calif., On Monday appealed to Trump’s longtime ally to sit on Pelosi’s committee along with Republican Representatives Jim Banks of Indiana, Rodney Davis of Illinois, Kelly Armstrong of North Dakota and Troy Nehls of Texas, Fox News confirmed.

Pelosi, D-Calif., Did not respond to a question about McCarthy’s committee picks or whether she would approve Jordan’s appointment by entering a closed-door Democratic caucus meeting on Tuesday.

Jordan reacted to his nomination on Monday by sharing a montage of Democratic lawmakers who opposed Trump’s victory in the 2016 election and those who accused him of colluding with Russia.

The Ohio Republican, along with Banks and Nehls, opposed the 2020 election results on January 6, the day Trump supporters stormed the Capitol as lawmakers gathered to certify victory from President Biden.

Republicans would join eight lawmakers nominated by Pelosi, who has the final say on who can sit on the committee. His selections included several leading critics of Trump, including Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., Rep. Jamie Rankin, D-Md., Who led impeachment proceedings against Trump for his role in the riot, and Rep. Liz Cheney, R- Wyo., who was among a small group of Republicans who voted to impeach Trump.

Pelosi formed a select committee after Republicans blocked a Democratic effort to create a 9/11-style commission to investigate the events of January 6. Republicans argued that the Democrats’ effort was politically motivated.

The select committee will convene its first hearing on July 27.
