The office of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, is responding to backlash at a dinner she is hosting with new Democratic members of Congress as coronavirus cases continue to climb across the country.
NBC News correspondent Leigh Ann Caldwell reported on Friday that Democratic and Republican House leaders were hosting dinners for the new members. She shared an image of several tables set up in the Capitol.

“This is happening as Americans are being told it will be against the law for them to have Thanksgiving with their families. The tweet sparked such controversy that Pelosi’s office issued a statement, although it looks like the dinner is going on as planned.
