New Orleans pelicans hire former UConn and WNBA star Swin Cash to take up front-office leadership, the team said on Monday.
The team was named vice president of operations and development for the basketball team at Cash, according to an official statement. She will seek out, guide the development of players on and off and take on other roles within the organization.
This is the latest in a major hiring of David Griffin, the new executive president of the Pelicans 'basketball operations – and the man in charge of managing Anthony Davis' situation. Last month, Griffin recruited Aaron Nelson, the highly respected head coach of the Phoenix Suns for two decades, as the new vice president of pelican player care and performance. Two weeks later, Griffin hired Trajan Langdon out of the Brooklyn nets to become the new pelicans general manager.
Cash, 39, played 15 seasons in the WNBA and formed four star teams. She was a member of the UConn 2000 and 2002 National Team Teams and won three WNBA titles. In 2017, New York Liberty has been appointed Director of Franchise Development at Cash. She has also appeared on several television platforms as an analyst, most notably on NBA TV last season with Griffin.
