Penn State has added its fifth offseason commitment from the NCAA transfer portal. Former Harvard offensive lineman Eric Wilson announced Wednesday morning that he would continue his career with the Nittany Lions. Wilson will join the program after graduating from Harvard at the end of the spring semester.
The 6-foot-4, 315-pound indoor offensive lineman was a 2019 All-Ivy League second-team selection and was an FCS All-American preseason in 2020 before the season was canceled. He was also a semi-finalist for the William V. Campbell Trophy, which “recognizes an individual as the best football scholar-athlete in the country for his academic achievement, football performance and exemplary leadership. “
Wilson had previously pledged to play Auburn before the Tigers underwent a coaching change in the offseason. LSU and others were also involved. He was drafted for the Nittany Lions by the offensive line coach Phil trautwein and has been in regular communication with James franklin as well as.
“The connection I have made with Coach Trautwein, Coach Franklin and the rest of the staff is something that I am extremely excited to continue this year, ”Wilson said of his decision. “All of their backgrounds speak for themselves in terms of developing players to be ready for the next level. Last weekend I took the tour and saw a decent 110,000-strong stadium and a great campus. I grew up a big ten football fan and can’t wait to be a part of a program like Penn State.
Wilson and his mother stopped in Happy Valley this weekend on their way back to Harvard from his home in Minnesota.
“It’s different from Boston, but the weather felt natural to me. It’s what I’m used to,” he told Brian Dohn of 247Sports at State College. “I really enjoyed the scenario of driving through the mountains and stuff like that. I’m about 25 minutes west of Minneapolis, and 25 minutes west of Minneapolis, there is a farm right next to us. “
Penn State has some moving parts inside the offensive line after a 4-5 season in 2020. Center Michal Menet and Will fries, who started the latter part of the season in right guard, both continued after their senior seasons. Right guard CJ Thorpe, who started three games on guard, entered the transfer portal earlier this month in hopes of playing defensive tackle at his next school. Left guard Mike Miranda should slide to the center to replace Menet, leaving the two guard posts vacant. Junior Redshirt Holmes and Anthony whigan, red shirt in second year Scruggs juice and others are expected to compete with Wilson for these vacancies. Nittany Lions will return to starting tackles Rasheed Walker and beat WALLACE from the line that started the last games of the Nittany Lions in 2020.
