STATE UNIVERSITY – Penn State defensive tackle Hakeem Beamon will be “unavailable” for the remainder of the season, coach James Franklin said after practice Wednesday night.
Beamon, a sophomore in the red shirt, hasn’t been to Wisconsin for the season opener, and he hasn’t dressed for each of the last three home games for the No. 4 from Penn State.
Franklin has not disclosed the reason for Beamon’s absence from games this season.
“He will be unavailable. He won’t be available this week and this season, ”Franklin said Wednesday.

Beamon has always been involved with the squad during the week as a member of the scout squad, often wearing the number of an opposing defensive lineman as opposed to his usual number 51. Beamon, a native of Midlothian, Va., Played 11 games in his first two seasons with Penn State. He recorded nine tackles and 1.5 tackles for losses in those games.
Heading into 2021, Beamon looked set to compete for a role on the defensive line after Penn State lost one of its best defensive tackles and top four defensive ends to the draft, transfer or injury from the NFL.
The 6-foot-3 Beamon is listed at 276 pounds on Penn State’s roster after being listed at 298 pounds last season – he was listed at 259 as a freshman – which suggested he might have a role inside or inside. edge.

It never worked out. But it looks like Beamon will continue to play a role in the practice.

Beamon was a four-star rookie in the Class of 2019, according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings. In those rankings, he was the No. 10 player in Virginia, the No. 18 defensive end nationally and the No. 307 overall prospect in the class.

Despite Beamon’s absence for the remainder of the season, Penn State still has a number of young defensive tackles who can play behind starters PJ Mustipher and Derrick Tangelo. Senior redshirt Fred Hansard is a veteran, while sophomore redshirt Dvon Ellies got some valuable playing time in the first month of the season.
During a Zoom call on Tuesday, Mustipher highlighted red-shirted freshmen Coziah Izzard, Fatorma Mulbah and Amin Vanover as young players in the post who impressed him.
Penn State faces Indiana at Beaver Stadium on Saturday night. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. and the game will be televised on ABC.
