9:50 – Pennzoil 400 pre-race notes – We are preparing for the main event this afternoon and no one is more eager to see the green flag fall than Kyle Busch. Busch is looking for the weekend sweep, a feat that he is the only one to have achieved in the NASCAR world. In fact, he did it twice (2010,2017) at Bristol Motor Speedway, a tough half mile in Tennessee, a sister track of LVMS and a personal favorite of Busch's.

"Doing the circuit here in Las Vegas, in my hometown, would be huge," Busch said after winning the Xfinity Series race yesterday. "It would be nice with the other two capable of accomplishing it, with this new aerodynamic package and with a 1.5 mile runway. I've won pretty much everywhere, but Bristol is absolutely one of my favorites and Vegas is not really one of my favorites. It would be nice to come here with this victory. "

Up to now, Busch has run 208 of 347 competition rounds this weekend. The event this afternoon is scheduled for 267 laps and it will line up in 3rd position on the starting grid.

Harvick starts from the pole – Kevin Harvick is one of many players with a good chance to party at Busch this weekend. In this race last year, Harvick took second place, led 214 laps and beat second, Kyle Busch, nearly three seconds.

Friday's qualifying session was an absolute victory with a crazy race for pole in the last moments of the session.

"The fastest qualifying car is fourth (Austin Dillon, 4th)," said Harvick. "I told them before we qualified that the fastest car would not win the pole today, and in the last round it will be the same for you." Certainly some luck involved there. "

8h50 – Race day, hello – Hello from LVMS, where the day is spectacular for shopping. The few scattered clouds that still linger in the valley are expected to burn by this afternoon. Forecasts predict temperatures in the mid-1960s and much quieter winds than we saw yesterday.

There is simply no reason not to join us for what should be an exciting day. The driver introductions for the Pennzoil 400 are at noon and the engine start command is scheduled at 12:37:45 (exactly – I know it because the pre-race schedule says so).

If you can not join us in person, come back here often for live updates throughout the event.
