People have named Michael B. Jordan the sexiest man in the world of 2020.
The magazine announced that the “Black Panther” star won the honor on Tuesday night.
The 33-year-old actor is one of Hollywood’s most eligible singles and is keeping his love life a secret. His victory as the Sexiest Man comes on the heels of musician John Legend’s recent reign.
“It’s a cool feeling,” he told People of the title. “You know, everybody’s always made that joke, like, ‘Mike, that’s the one thing you probably won’t get. “But it’s a good club to be a part of.”
After working at a young age as a child model, Jordan wowed critics in the modest but important role of Wallace in the HBO crime drama “The Wire.” He then joined the cast of the ABC soap opera “All My Children” in 2003 – replacing his future “Black Panther” co-star, the late Chadwick Boseman.
Jordan played quarterback Vince Howard in the NBC drama “Friday Night Lights,” and won more critical raves portraying the Oscar Grant shooting victim in the 2013 biopic drama “Fruitvale Station”.
In 2015, the muscular actor starred in one action movie after another, playing Johnny Storm, the human torch, in Marvel’s “Fantastic Four” and then Adonis “Donnie” Creed, the son of boxer Apollo Creed, in the “Rocky” sequel “Creed”.
His biggest role to date may well be his highly praised portrayal of supervillain Erik Killmonger in Marvel’s “Black Panther,” who found him grappling with the titular superhero character of Boseman.
But getting into the mind of someone so sinister took an impact on Jordan’s sanity. He told Oprah Winfrey on a February 2019 “SuperSoul Conversations” TV special that he started seeing a therapist after filming was finished.
“I got a little depressed. It was hard for me for a minute,” he revealed. “Just readjusting myself to be with the people who care about me, to get this love that I have closed for a long time.” “Honestly, therapy, just talking to someone has really helped me a lot,” he said. “As a man, you know, we’ve got a lot of slack for that… I’m not really a subscriber to that. Because I feel like everyone needs to unpack and talk.”
The title of World’s Sexiest Man has been awarded to celebrities like Patrick Swayze and John F. Kennedy Jr. since 1985. Denzel Washington was the first black man to win the title in 1996, and in recent years he went to actors Dwayne Johnson and Idris Elba.
Jordan has had a busy schedule since “Black Panther” wowed viewers, and will be seen next in the upcoming spy thriller “Without Remorse”.
